Brazil enacts new regulations to prevent the import of illegal textiles

The Brazilian government has promulgated several new regulations aimed at reducing the import of illegal textiles and clothing, which is part of the inspection of its customs system.

However, if these products do not comply with the new regulations, these changes may delay the company's shipment of products into Brazil, the processing time is relatively slow, and more customs control procedures.

According to the latest news from the United States Office of Textiles and Clothing (OTEXA), the new Brazilian customs supervision includes a special inspection procedure, which may extend the time for import of imported products to 180 days.

The new procedure applies to textiles and clothing in Chapters 61 and 62 of the Harmonized System of Coordination, and the resulting delay may also result in additional storage or Other expenses.

The Brazilian customs authorities have also issued other regulations that will strictly monitor and control the import transactions of textiles and clothing.

The customs authorities must also register the importing company’s documents on any illegal import activities within the scope of the government radar (Brazilian Foreign Trade Import and Export Authorization) system. This database includes all trade data from Brazilian Customs and customs data provided to the authorities and can be used to determine future differences.

In addition, this move will increase another obstacle to the import of textiles and clothing. From December 1, the Brazilian government raised the tariff on imported textiles, shoes and furniture from 7.6% to 9.1%.
