Four uses of ISO certification

1. The supplier confirms that its quality system meets the requirements of the specified quality system.

In the case of a contract, the supplier shall confirm to the specific customer that its quality system meets the quality system requirements specified in the contract. In the case of third-party certification, the supplier shall verify with the certification body that its quality system meets the requirements of the quality assurance model applied for.

2. As a quality assurance agreement between the customer and the supplier in the case of the contract.

In the contract, the customer can directly quote one of the three modes when the supplier's quality system requirements are appropriate; if necessary, the appropriate tailoring or supplementary requirements can be made on the basis of one mode. Which model is quoted in the contract and how it is tailored and supplemented should be negotiated by the customer and the supplier, and an agreement should be reached on the basis of the advantages of both parties. After the contract is signed, the referenced quality assurance model standards and the requirements for tailoring and replenishment will serve as the basis for the customer's review of the supplier's quality system.

3. As a criterion for assessing the quality system of the supplier before the contract (in the case of second party identification or registration).

Before the contract is signed, the customer often needs to assess the supplier's quality system to determine the supplier's ability to meet the technical requirements of the ordered product. Prior to the assessment, the parties shall agree on which quality assurance standard to use and, if necessary, additional requirements as a criterion for assessment (or recognition).

4. As the basis for third-party certification.

In the third-party quality system certification, the supplier and the certification body should agree on which quality assurance standard to use as the certification criteria. The mode chosen should suit the technical requirements of the covered product and will not mislead the supplier's customers.

For example, an organization has a design function, and the product covered by the application system certification is designed by the organization itself. Whether it is GB1/T19001-ISO9001 or GB1/T19002-ISO9002 is particularly important. When design quality is particularly important for product quality formation and is difficult to fully verify during product inspection and testing, GB1/T19001-ISO9001 should be selected. Generally speaking, an organization that designs and manufactures its own products is better qualified to rely on the quality system certification of the former model.
