Braided raw material Salix

Salix is a shrub or small tree commonly found in arid and semi-arid regions. Its young branchlets are covered with purple hairs, which eventually fade as the branches mature. The leaves are usually lanceolate or oblanceolate, measuring between 1.5 to 5 cm in length, with serrated edges. The male inflorescences are slightly longer than the female ones, typically ranging from 1.5 to 2.3 cm in length. This plant is mainly distributed across northern China, including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, and Jilin, where it thrives on sand dunes. Due to its strong root system and resilience, it is widely used for weaving baskets and crafting traditional items. Salix is well adapted to harsh environments, including saline soils and desert areas. It is one of the few plants capable of surviving in such conditions. Its young branches are yellowish in color, and its leaves are narrow and lance-shaped. The plant is highly resistant to sand pressure, making it an ideal species for afforestation projects aimed at stabilizing sandy land. With strong sprouting ability and deep roots, it plays a crucial role in preventing soil erosion and desertification. One of its natural enemies is the Salix argentatus moth, which is often found in river valley wetlands. The plant is native to several provinces, including Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, and Sichuan. Due to its ecological importance, Salix has been designated as a key species in the "Three-North Shelter Forest" project, which aims to combat desertification in northern China. As a vital component of sand control efforts, it continues to be a preferred choice for environmental restoration and reforestation programs.
