Fujian's Quality and Technical Supervision recently officially released the local standard DB35/T 958-2009 titled "Men's Casual Pants," which will take effect on December 10 this year. This marks the first-ever standard for casual pants in China and globally, highlighting the growing importance of casual pants as a key category within the textile and garment industry. The standard's preface mentions that it was developed by the Shishi City Casual Pants Association and approved by the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, aiming to regulate the production and sales of slacks.
The main drafting organizations include the Shishi City Casual Pants Association, Zhou Weaving, and five other member companies, along with the Lions Association of Quality and Technical Supervision. Additional participation came from seven more member companies, including Jinwei. The official release of the "Men's Slacks" standard has provided a solid foundation for local standardization efforts in Shishi City, offering a clear direction for relevant enterprises and professionals in the slacks industry.
Shishi's garment industry, particularly its casual pants sector, has played a significant role in driving the development of China's textile and apparel sector. Once a small part of the broader fashion industry, casual pants have evolved into an independent and rapidly growing sector. Cities like Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, and Changshu have also seen high-profile growth in the men's and women's slacks industry, becoming key pillars of their local economies. As one of the earliest cities to form a slacks industry cluster, Shishi is well-positioned to lead in standardization efforts.
The Shishi City Casual Pants Association has now issued the DB35/T 958-2009 standard to all member companies, requiring them to follow the guidelines in production and sales. In the future, all newly produced slacks will be labeled, tagged, and packaged according to the new standards. Existing inventory will also be replaced with updated labels, rendering previous tags obsolete. The association will work closely with provincial and municipal quality supervision departments to train company leaders and staff, ensuring smooth implementation across the entire production, management, and sales process.
According to the association, the launch of the standard is not the end of Shishi's casual pants industry but rather a new beginning. Their long-term goal is to transition the local standard into an industry and eventually national standard, further elevating the status of Shishi's casual pants industry on a broader scale. This move signals the city's commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainable growth in the global textile market.
