Fujian's Quality and Technical Supervision recently officially released the local standard DB35/T 958-2009 titled "Men's Casual Pants," which will take effect on December 10 this year. This marks the first ever national standard for casual pants in China and around the world, highlighting the growing importance of casual pants within the textile and garment industry. The standard was developed with the support of the Shishi City Casual Pants Association and the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, aiming to regulate the production and sales of slacks.
The main drafting organizations included the Shishi City Casual Pants Association, Zhou Weaving, and five other member companies, along with the Lions Association of Quality and Technical Supervision. Additionally, seven other companies participated in the development process. This standard provides a solid foundation for local standardization efforts in the men’s slacks sector, offering clear guidelines for manufacturers and professionals involved in the industry.
Shishi's garment industry, particularly its casual pants sector, has played a significant role in the growth of China's textile and apparel industry. Once a small segment of the fashion market, casual pants have evolved into an independent and rapidly growing industry. Cities like Zhengzhou, Shijiazhuang, and Changshu have also seen significant development in the men's and women's slacks industry, making it a key economic pillar. As one of the earliest cities to establish a slacks industry cluster, Shishi is well-positioned to lead in standardization and innovation.
The Shishi City Casual Pants Association has now issued the DB35/T 958-2009 standard to all member companies, requiring them to align their production and sales practices accordingly. Going forward, all newly produced slacks must comply with the new labeling, tagging, and packaging requirements. Existing inventory will be replaced with updated labels, and all previous tags will be phased out. The association will also work closely with provincial and municipal quality supervision departments to provide training on the new standard, ensuring that company owners and staff are fully prepared for the implementation across the entire production and sales chain.
The association believes that the release of this standard is not an end but rather a new beginning for the Shishi casual pants industry. Their long-term goal is to transition from local standards to national and eventually international industry standards, further elevating the status of Shishi's casual pants sector on a global scale. With this new standard in place, the industry is entering a new era of professionalism and growth.
