ask me: housekeeping questions

Hey friends! It's been such a joy to answer your questions so far. Today's batch is full of quick-fire queries with a bit of a behind-the-scenes twist. ![Ask Me: Q&A with Liesl](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/6745928475e40818108f07d0335e7cac.jpg) Katheryn wrote: *"You've been such a fantastic resource for sewing patterns for women and kids; what about men's patterns? There are so few options out there. Have you tried any men's patterns and do you like them?"* Thank you, Katheryn, and thanks for asking! I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a men's pattern that we'll be launching next fall. I'm super excited about it. If there's enough interest and it sells well, we'll definitely consider expanding into more men's patterns. For now, we're dipping our toes into the water with one pattern to see how it goes. Fingers crossed! Jamie chimed in with: *"Are you planning any new Oliver + S patterns for release in 2017?"* Yes, indeed! I'm working on a new Oliver + S pattern for fall as well. Since writing and publishing the *Building Block Dress* book took up a lot of my time (and we didn't release any adult patterns during those two years), I've been focusing more on catching up in the women's category. However, there will be a fresh children's pattern this fall, and I've already started sketching out ideas for several more for next spring. Janis asked: *"Will you be offering your Bubble Dress pattern in larger sizes? It's my absolute favorite, but my young lady has outgrown your size 5. The version featured in an older issue of *Sew Beautiful* magazine, made with designer fabrics, is simply stunning. Can't get over it. If you plan to expand this pattern, please let me know."* Thanks, Janis. In general, we've decided not to re-size our older patterns. It's incredibly time-consuming, and newer styles tend to sell better. From a business standpoint, it just makes more sense to focus on developing new designs that appeal to a broader range of customers. The Bubble Dress was originally designed for younger girls, and it might not resonate as well in a size 8 or 10. So, we'll keep it as it is and create fresh styles for older girls instead. I hope you understand! Oh, and speaking of older questions, I never got around to answering one from Phyllis a while back: *"I’m always curious about your personal style choices—especially regarding S’s clothing and fabric selections. What influences your aesthetic? Does it have a French sensibility to it?"* Hmm, this is tricky to answer. I'm flattered you asked, but I don't have a straightforward response. Designers are usually hired based on their taste, and my family has always teased me about having sophisticated and expensive tastes. I was even offered a job at Ralph Lauren before I graduated. Maybe it’s something innate? I lean toward classic, timeless designs with a modern twist, which could be seen as a touch French. Everyone has their own style, though, and I believe you can refine yours through practice. My goal has always been to look stylish without obsessing over my clothes, so it’s ironic that I ended up designing them professionally! I’ll share more about my spring wardrobe choices in an upcoming post, and maybe that will give you some insights into my thinking. Stay tuned—I’ll also be diving into print mixing soon!
