Global apparel supply chain is highly competitive

According to reports, although international apparel and accessories brands and buyers plan to seek more manufacturers from Myanmar, Vietnam, Bangladesh, etc., China still ranks first in the competition with mature supply chains and higher quality products. The data shows that China's suppliers are higher-end brands. For the mass market and fast fashion, finding suppliers from lower-cost countries is "must do it."

In September 2014, the U.S. Commerce Department had published a data showing that although the cost of each SME rose by 2.2%, compared with the total amount of US$62 billion in the same period of last year, the U.S. total from January to September this year Imports of clothing rose by 2.8%. Among them, total imports increased by 3.1%.

The data also shows that the market share of clothing imported from Vietnam by the United States has been increasing, from 10% in the first 9 months of last year, to 11.3% this year. In September, garments imported from Vietnam by the United States reached a record high of US$914 million, an increase of 22.7% over the same period of last year.

The types of clothing exported to the United States by China and Vietnam are mainly women's knit tops, women's and men's trousers, women's rayon knit tops and skirts, and cotton underwear. In contrast, the share of Chinese apparel exports to the US market has declined: from 37.1% to 36.2%, which means that the Chinese clothing industry has suffered some losses.

In terms of both import amount and quantity, with the exception of China and Vietnam, which accounted for a large share of U.S. imported clothing, Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia all scored a share, but China still ranks first in the U.S. import clothing country.
