Tourmaline: (1) The density of tourmaline (3.06) is smaller than that of topaz (3.53). (2) The birefringence of tourmaline (generally 0.020) is larger than that of topaz (0.08-0.010), and it is easy to see the ghost of the tourmaline with small facets under the magnifying glass.
