Identification of topaz imitations

Aquamarine: (1) The refractive index (1.577-1.583) and density (2.72) of aquamarine are smaller than that of topaz. (2) The chromaticity of aquamarine generally has a green hue, while the chromaticity of a blue topaz has no green hue. (3) Aquamarine is a single axis crystal, and topaz is a biaxial crystal.

Tourmaline: (1) The density of tourmaline (3.06) is smaller than that of topaz (3.53). (2) The birefringence of tourmaline (generally 0.020) is larger than that of topaz (0.08-0.010), and it is easy to see the ghost of the tourmaline with small facets under the magnifying glass. The double shadow of the topaz is not obvious. (3) The variegation of tourmaline is obvious, and it can be clearly observed by the naked eye; the pleochroism of topaz is much weaker than tourmaline.

Sai Huangjing: (1) The density of Saikhuang (3.00) is smaller than that of Topaz (3.53). (2) Saihuang has a set of extremely incomplete cleavage, and Topaz has a complete set of cleavage. .

Andalusite: (1) Andalusite (3.17) is smaller than topaz (3.53). (2) Andalusite has obvious trichromism, while topaz has only dichroism.

Apatite: (1) The density of apatite (3.18) is smaller than that of topaz. (2) The chromaticity of blue apatite is dark yellow-blue, and the chromaticity of blue topaz is blue-light blue or light blue-colorless. The apatite is a monoaxial crystal and the topaz is a biaxial crystal.

Glass: Glass is a homogeneous body. Full extinction under crossed polarizers. Although glass sometimes has a serpentine band-like abnormal extinction phenomenon, it is completely different from the topping phenomenon of topaz (non-homogeneous body); glass has no birefringence and pleochroism; glass often contains round bubbles. In the topaz, there are gas-liquid two-phase inclusions.
